Mood – ambience – was certainly all around during our evening walk along an old cobbled road just outside Castiglione di Garfagnana late last September.
Playing with light (or absence, thereof), adding a dark vignette to highlight the tunnel of trees along the old medieval route that links Castiglione with San Pellegrino in Alpe.
We wound down to a ‘devil’s bridge’ called the Ponte dei Mulini, the bridge of the mills because of its proximity to a number (now defunct) water mills. It crosses the Esarulo, a tributary of the Serchio. Photograph taken by near moonlight with the iPhone app NightCap Pro.

Wow, that bridge looks a bit spooky, but it also makes for a spectacular picture! The first photo is atmospheric, too!

It didn’t seem spooky at the time – more magical, as if you expected to see medieval pilgrims on horseback just around the bend. Though, I guess there might have been a boggart or two lurking under the bridge. 😉
